Bedford Named One of the Top 15 Safest Communities in Massachusetts
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno and the Bedford Police Department are pleased to report that the Town of Bedford has been named one of the safest communities in Massachusetts.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security recently released the results of its nationwide study, looking at crime statistics in every city and town in all 50 states.
This year, Bedford ranked the 13th safest out of more than 350 cities and towns across the Commonwealth.
“The hardworking men and women of the Bedford Police Department strive every day to provide a safe and secure community for our residents, business owners, and visitors, and we are proud to be named one of the safest communities in Massachusetts,” Chief Bongiorno said. “However, we continue to make strides and implement progressive, modern policing programs aimed at delivering the best service possible to Bedford.”
To identify the safest cities and towns in Massachusetts, the National Council for Home Safety and Security, based online at alarms.com, reviewed the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics along with its own staff research. The study does not take into account communities with fewer than 5,000 residents.
Cities and towns were ranked based on the rate of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) and property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft) per 1,000 people.
