TEWKSBURY – Chief Ryan Columbus is pleased to announce the Tewksbury Police Department will be offering the second annual Junior Police Academy for students entering Grades 5-8 who are interested in learning more about law enforcement.
Due to the tremendous success of last year’s program, which was attended by about 50 kids, the Tewksbury Police Department is excited to be offering this free program again this year.
This year’s academy will be held July 18-22 at Tewksbury Memorial High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Topics will include physical fitness and health and wellness classes; criminal law; investigations, cyber safety; CPR and first aid; drug and alcohol awareness; domestic violence, motor vehicle law, the K-9 Unit, the Drone Unit, and mental health, with numerous hands-on activities to help students understand the content.
Applicants must be Tewksbury residents.
Spots in the academy will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. If enough students express interest a second academy class might be added from July 25-29.
“The Junior Citizens Police Academy was extremely well-received last year, and I encourage anyone who is eligible and interested in law enforcement to join us this year for a fun, safe and educational experience,” said Chief Columbus.
