SOMERSET – Chief George McNeil is pleased to announce that the Somerset Police Department was awarded a $47,661 Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program (CESFP) grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Office of Grants and Research.
The grant was part of the $9.6 million in funding that the Baker-Politio Administration allocated to help local and state public safety agencies purchase additional resources to further aid in the prevention, preparation for and/or response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Somerset Police Department will use the funds to construct a modern electronic sign in front of the public safety complex. Messages can be placed on the sign board remotely by the police or fire chief to advise the public of necessary public safety information.
“We are very thankful to the Baker-Polito Administration for this additional funding as the Somerset community continues to address COVID-19 in our community,” Chief McNeil said. “The electronic message board will allow us to ensure the community has important public health and safety information during the pandemic as well as into the future.”
Municipalities were eligible to receive up to $50,000 in individual funding. In total, 65 fire departments and 44 police departments representing 94 cities and towns received CESFP awards.
