ACTON — Chief Robert Hart reports that the Acton Fire Department extinguished a residential garage fire on Sunday, May 24.
At approximately 11:54 a.m., Acton firefighters responded to 14 Alcott St. for a report that the home’s attached garage was on fire.
Acton Engine 21, Engine 23, Engine 26, Ladder 28, Rescue 33 and Car 30 responded to the scene and found heavy smoke showing and a working fire in the attached garage.
All occupants of the home had safely evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to make a quick and aggressive attack, knocking down the flames and preventing the fire from spreading to the rest of the home. The garage sustained significant fire and water damage, and the home sustained substantial smoke damage.
The Building Commissioner and wiring inspector responded to the scene as well.
Crews from the Concord and Boxborough Fire Departments provided station coverage.
The initial investigation indicates that the fire started in the garage inside a waste receptacle. The official cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Acton Fire Department.
The displaced residents, two adults and one child, will be using the assistance of neighbors and family.
Chief Hart would like to praise the efforts of his firefighters and the responding departments who assisted.
