2016 NEMLEC Police Foundation Golf Tournament Raises More Than $50,000 for Police Training
DRACUT — The NEMLEC Police Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce that after a final tabulation of donations and expenses, their annual golf tournament fundraiser brought in more than $50,000 for police training, programs and services.
The 2016 NEMLEC Police Foundation Golf Tournament was held on Monday, May 23 at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut. This year’s fundraising effort was supported by a sellout field of 122 golfers, an extremely strong showing by tournament sponsors and a successful raffle and silent auction.
As a special recognition at this year’s tournament, the NEMLEC Police Foundation honored retired MBTA Transit Police Sgt. Dic Donohue, who was shot and critically injured in Watertown during the active police pursuit of the two men responsible for the Boston Marathon Bombings in 2013.
“We were so thrilled to recognize Dic Donohue and are so fortunate to continue to put on successful golf tournament fundraisers every year to benefit our member communities and charitable organizations,” said Foundation Director Sharon Crowley. “The support we have received from our sponsors, volunteers, golfers and member police departments is tremendous and we would not be as successful as we have been without them.”
All proceeds from the tournament go directly to the NEMLEC Foundation, which provides training and support for municipal police in Middlesex and Essex counties. Additionally, the Foundation will give a portion of the proceeds to Cops for Kids With Cancer.
“By holding a fundraiser as large as this each year, we are able to support vital training programs for our member law enforcement agencies,” said Richard Raymond, the Foundation’s Chairman. “Once again, we could not have asked for a better tournament and we look forward to continuing to help provide valuable resources to the NEMLEC communities.”
With funds raised at previous tournaments, the Foundation has been able to continuously offer and add new training opportunities for hundreds of police officers in Middlesex and Essex counties, as well as elite NEMLEC units, including:
- School Threat Assessment Response System (STARS) training
- Basic and advanced criminal investigation training for detectives
- Supervisor training through Roger Williams University
- Comprehensive motorcycle training for the NEMLEC Motor Unit
- Advanced tactical training (SWAT/RRT)
- K-9 Training
- School and workplace violence training
- Risk management training
- Active shooter training
In addition to providing these valuable trainings, the NEMLEC Foundation has donated more than $50,000 to charitable organizations with funds raised from previous golf tournaments.
