East Bridgewater Police Arrest Two Men After Vehicle Pursuit, K-9 Search
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief John Cowan reports that the East Bridgewater Police Department arrested two men in a vehicle over the weekend after the driver allegedly sped recklessly through town and fled from police.
On Sunday, Jan. 24 at approximately 7:20 p.m., a Officer Christopher Correia noticed a vehicle traveling above the speed limit on Thatcher Road and activated his emergency lights to conduct a stop. The driver failed to stop and drove at a high rate of speed through East Bridgewater before crashing into a six-wheel box truck near Pleasant Street. Officer Correia radioed for assistance, and Sgt.Paul O’Brien and Sgt William Patterson arrived on scene shortly afterward.
A man inside the vehicle told police he was not the driver. With no other occupant around, police contacted the West Bridgewater Police Department to bring their K-9 unit to help locate the suspect.
Following footprints surrounding the crash site, the K-9 unit located the driver in a wooded area nearby. The vehicle was also searched and police located a firearm, ammunition and several bags of drugs, later determined to be heroin and the extremely strong and dangerous synthetic painkiller, fentanyl.
The driver, JULIO GAMBOA, AGE 25, OF RANDOLPH was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm for a Felony
- Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card
- Possession of Ammunition
- Possession of a Class A Drug
- Distribution of a Class A Drug
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws
- Failing to Stop for Police
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle

The passenger. DYLAN FONTES, AGE 23, OF BROCKTON was also arrested and charged with:

“These individuals put the entire community in danger with their dangerous and reckless actions,” Chief Cowan said. “I commend the work of our East Bridgewater Officers, especially Officer Correia for identifying a dangerous situation and helping to ensure that no civilians were harmed by the suspects’ actions. As a result of this police work, two dangerous alleged drug dealers are off the streets today.”
As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, GAMBOA was transported to the Brockton Hospital by ambulance and was scheduled to be arraigned there today. FONTES was taken to Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center in Boston, where he was also scheduled to be arraigned today.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
