Franklin Police and Fire Respond to Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash Overnight
FRANKLIN — Police Chief Stephan Semerjian and Fire Chief Gary B. McCarraher regret to report that Franklin Police and Fire responded late Friday evening to a motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl.
Rescuers responded to the area around 850 Lincoln St. at 11:34 p.m. for a report of a single car crash into a tree. Bystanders at the scene attempted to remove the lone occupant, the driver, from the vehicle, but they were unable to because of rapidly spreading fire in the vehicle. Firefighters arrived within five minutes and put the fire out, however the victim was declared dead at the scene.
The driver was identified as MADELINE LAMSON, AGE 17, OF MEDWAY.
“This is a very tragic accident, made all the more difficult by the valiant rescue efforts put in by civilians and first responders,” Chief McCarraher said.
“This is a terribly tragic situation, involving the loss of a young life,” Chief Semerjian said. “Our hearts go out to the victims family during this difficult time.”
The investigation is active and ongoing, with the Franklin Police and Fire Departments, the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Medical Examiner, and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
