WHO:
Several West Newbury Police Officers will be on hand offering free installations to anyone who wishes to participate.
WHAT:
West Newbury Police Chief Lisa Holmes announces that police officers will be offering Free Car Seat Installations this weekend. The officers will be installing car seats in residents’ vehicles, showing them how to properly secure the seats and their children inside them, and will also identify defective or malfunctioning car seats.
According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, 75 percent of child safety seats are installed incorrectly and motor vehicle crashes are one of the leading causes of death and injury for all children. The proper installation and use of child safety seats can reduce the risk of injury by 71 to 82 percent, and reduce the risk of death by 28 percent when compared to children only wearing a seat belt.
