Winchester Police Discuss Media Staging and Logistics for This Week’s Memorial Events

WINCHESTER — The Winchester Police Department is coordinating news media staging during memorial events this week for the Winchester High School student killed in a motor vehicle crash over the weekend.
THURSDAY:
A wake will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at St. Mary’s Parish, 158 Washington St., in Winchester, from 3-8 p.m.
Media in marked vehicles are asked to park on Washington Street, between Dunham and Nelson streets, just north of the church. Please do not interfere with the visitation hours. No news media or cameras will be allowed in the church.
Members of the media will be allowed to set up their equipment and stand across the street from the church. Broadcast media may run lines from their vehicles to the staging area across the street from the church, but please do not run lines on the same side of the street as the church or block pedestrian access.
FRIDAY:
A funeral mass will be said on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at St. Mary’s Parish, 158 Washington St., in Winchester, at 11 a.m.
Once again, media in marked vehicles are asked to park on Washington Street, between Dunham and Nelson streets. There will be no news cameras allowed in the church.
Members of the media will be allowed to set up their equipment and stand across the street from the church. Broadcast media may run lines from their vehicles to the staging area across the street from the church, but please do not run lines on the same side of the street as the church or block pedestrian access.
Interment will be closed to the media.
SATURDAY:
The Winchester High School football team will play a game against Woburn on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at Knowlton Stadium, 458 Main St., in Winchester.
A large crowd is expected. Members of the media will be allowed to enter the stadium to cover the game. Media are asked to arrive early at the stadium gates. Police officers will direct you to the proper parking area for press.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Winchester Police and Fire Departments are calling in extra crews to work this week.
Washington Street will be closed in both directions near St. Mary’s Parish during the wake and funeral. Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
A very large crowd is expected at the football game on Saturday afternoon. Extra Winchester Police officers will be on hand to aid with traffic and logistics.
Motorists should expect heavy traffic near Knowlton Stadium throughout the day on Saturday, especially Mystic Valley Parkway and Main Street.
The Woburn Police Department is providing several units and resources to Winchester this week as well.
