BLACKSTONE — Police Chief Gregory Gilmore is pleased to report that two Blackstone Police officers were recently commended for their actions in responding to an incident involving a person trapped in a burning vehicle.
On Nov. 26, Chief Gilmore presented Officers Greggory Haynes and Taylor Hanson with letters of commendation at a Blackstone Board of Selectmen meeting.
“I am honored to formally recognize Officer Greggory Haynes and Officer Taylor Hanson for outstanding bravery and commitment to public safety,” Chief Gilmore wrote in his commendation letter.
On Oct. 20, Officer Haynes and Officer Hanson demonstrated exceptional courage and swift action while responding to a critical incident involving a burning vehicle.
After arriving on the scene, they assessed the situation, discovering an occupant trapped inside the vehicle, which was engulfed in flames.
“Without hesitation and at great personal risk, Officer Haynes and Officer Taylor
approached the vehicle and successfully freed the individual, guiding them to safety and ensuring their immediate medical care,” Chief Gilmore said. “Their selflessness and professionalism displayed in this life-threatening situation exemplify the highest values of our department.”
The officers’ quick actions saved the life of the person trapped inside the vehicle.
“We commend Officer Haynes and Officer Taylor for their extraordinary heroism, which prevented a tragic outcome and served as a profound example of dedication and bravery,” Chief Gilmore said. “Their actions reflect great credit upon themselves, their training and our entire force. Thank you, Officer Haynes and Officer Taylor, for your remarkable service and for reminding us all of the unwavering commitment that defines our department.”
