MAYNARD — The Maynard Police Department would like to announce that after a 31-year career in law enforcement, Chief Michael Noble is retiring. Chief Noble started with the department as a patrol officer in 1994 and rose to the rank of Chief in 2019. Chief Noble’s official last day will be March 4, 2025.
As he reflects on his career, Chief Noble notes the many accomplishments achieved by the department: the restructuring of the department command staff, building a diverse and inclusive department, having a concentrated commitment to mental health initiatives, making enhancements in training and resources, introducing new innovative technologies, adapting to police reform and the social justice movement, navigating the pandemic, adding comfort dog Otis to the department, and the continued recognition for best police practices by Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).
“The success we’ve achieved is a testament to the collective effort and shared vision of the members of the Maynard Police Department and Town leadership,” said Chief Noble. “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Town Administrator Greg Johnson and the Select Board (including former members) for their support throughout my tenure as Chief. The unwavering trust in me and the department has been vital to our success.”
Chief Noble credits his successto the support of his family. He thanks his children AJ, Conor, and Liam, whose love and understanding inspired the Chief to strive for a better future and create a safer community for all Maynard families. He also credits his wife, Jessica, for her unwavering support and sacrifice over the years as he navigated the law enforcement realm, and thanks her for being his partner through it all.
“As I transition into retirement, I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing personal interests that have long been on hold. While I am excited about this new chapter, I will genuinely miss the camaraderie and the daily dedication that has been such a significant part of my life. I will mostly miss working with and leading such a phenomenal group of officers currently and previously employed with the Maynard Police Department. I personally want to thank all the tremendous officers and employees I have worked with over my career. The dedication to the community that these employees have displayed over the years certainly made my job as Chief easier and more enjoyable. I would like to thank my family for their love and support throughout the years, as I would not have been able to do this without them. It has been the privilege and honor of a lifetime, and I am grateful for the memories and experiences that I will carry with me always,” said Chief Noble.
One of Chief Noble’s core responsibilities as Chief is to build and foster new leaders within the department in preparation for his succession. Chief Noble strongly recommends and endorses the appointment of Deputy Chief Christopher Troiano to be named Chief after Noble’s departure.
“Deputy Chief Troiano’s resume is stellar, and the success of the Police Department couldn’t have been accomplished without his steady leadership,” said Chief Noble. “Maynard is a fortunate community as we have an outstanding Deputy Chief, who is ready to take the reins as Chief upon my retirement.”
