BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher D. Delmonte and the Bridgewater Police Department charged a Brockton man with illegal possession of a firearm as a result of an investigation that stemmed from a motor vehicle stop on Monday night.
MARC LEMENE, AGE 19, OF BROCKTON was arrested and charged with:
- Possession of a Firearm without a License
- Possession of Ammunition without an FID
- Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device
- Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm
- Carry a Firearm on School Grounds
- Possession to Distribute a Class D Drug
- Resisting Arrest
On Monday, Aug. 5, at 10:14 p.m., a Bridgewater Police K-9 officer conducting traffic enforcement stopped a vehicle on School Street at Bridgewater State University that was not properly registered or insured.
While conducting the motor vehicle stop, both the operator and passenger were informed of the vehicle’s registration status and that the vehicle would be towed. Both occupants were instructed to exit the vehicle.
The front-seat passenger, later identified as LEMENE, became argumentative with officers and initially refused to exit the vehicle. After multiple instructions from the officers, LEMENE began to exit the vehicle and allegedly reached toward his waistband.
Officers perceived this action as LEMENE attempting to conceal or retrieve a weapon and asked LEMENE if he was in possession of any weapons. LEMENE allegedly then attempted to flee from the officers while clutching his waistband and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
A search of LEMENE’S person revealed a black firearm with a loaded large-capacity magazine. The firearm did not have a serial number and was identified as a “ghost gun.”
“Ghost guns” come from kits that can be purchased online and then assembled at home. Guns made from the kits do not have serial numbers, making them difficult for law enforcement to trace.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 33-year-old ROBERT ARIEL BELTRE CORDERO of Brockton, was also arrested for charges of Operating Without a Driver’s License, Operating an Unregistered and Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Concealment of a Number Plate.
LEMENE and CORDERO were arraigned in Brockton District Court on Monday.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
