TAUNTON — Police Chief Edward J. Walsh is pleased to share that a local family received a donation from Cops for Kids with Cancer during a meet-and-greet at the Taunton Police Department.
On Sunday, Oct. 15, Massachusetts retired Sgt. Thomas Reed of Cops for Kids with Cancer presented a $5,000 check to the Manguru family. The donation will cover expenses relating to 3-year-old Wendo Manguru, who is currently in remission for Leukemia.
Mother, Annsharon Manguru, and father, John Manguru, along with brother, Takaso, and sister, Zuri, accepted the check with Wendo. Taunton Police officers were on hand and met with the family.
On July 31, 2023, the Manguru family received life-changing news that their then 2-year-old daughter Wendo was diagnosed with Leukemia. The family stayed at Boston Children’s Hospital inpatient for 37 days for the initial cycles of chemotherapy treatment, which will be followed with more treatment for the next two years.
Wendo is now in remission but is still receiving treatment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
“The Taunton Police Department is honored to host the Manguru family. Wendo’s strength and resilience in the face of adversity serves as inspiration for us all,” Chief Walsh said. “We are committed to supporting them and wish to thank the sponsors of Cops for Kids with Cancer for the tremendous work they have done that helps to support the Manguru family.”
