BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Christopher D. Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is releasing the name of the victim killed in a motorcycle crash on Thursday.
PERCY LEWIS III, 18, OF BRIDGEWATER, died as a result of injuries sustained during a crash that occurred on Thursday, Oct. 12.
“On behalf of the Bridgewater Police Department, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Percy Lewis,” said Chief Delmonte.
On Thursday, Oct. 12 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Bridgewater Police and Fire responded to the area of 1001 Bedford St. for reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and van.
Upon arrival, rescuers located a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle with significant
damage. The motorcycle operator, an 18-year-old male from Bridgewater, had sustained severe injuries and was found lying in the northbound lane of Bedford Street.
Responders also observed a 2014 Ford economy van and a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had sustained damage during the crash.
An initial investigation determined that the 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling south on Bedford Street at a high rate of speed in the breakdown lane while passing vehicles on the right. The motorcycle then allegedly collided with the Ford van, which had been traveling northbound and was taking a left. After colliding with the van, the motorcycle and its operator veered into the northbound lane and collided with the Jeep.
The motorcycle operator was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The other drivers remained on scene after the crash and did not report any injuries. They cooperated with police at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Police Department. Bridgewater Police were assisted by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Raynham Police’s Accident Reconstruction Unit.
