STOUGHTON — Chief Donna M. McNamara said the Stoughton Police Department is investigating a reported carjacking that occurred on Monday afternoon.
Stoughton Police received a call at 5:53 p.m. of a carjacking near the intersection of Pierce and Leach streets, near Halloran Park.
A person responded to an online ad seeking plumbing assistance. When the victim, a man in his mid-40s who received the call, arrived at the address given in Stoughton, no one was present. The victim called the person who had requested plumbing services, who said they would be at the address shortly.
Moments later, a black man of a stocky build and wearing a white T-shirt approached the victim’s white Jeep Grand Cherokee. That man displayed a gun and threatened the victim, and took the victim’s cellphone and wallet. The man took control of the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed.
The victim was not injured.
Police were able to use tracking technology to locate the vehicle in Boston. With cooperation and assistance from Boston Police, Stoughton officers were able to guide Boston Police to the last-known location of the vehicle. One party was taken into custody by Boston Police when the vehicle was stopped.
The Stoughton Police investigation remains active and ongoing.
