LITTLETON — Chief Matthew Pinard and the Littleton Police Department are pleased to announce the launch of the new video-capable 911 system.
Built by Prepared, the Live 911 software enables 911 dispatch centers to live stream, receive multimedia and receive locations from mobile callers in real time. This additional technology will improve dispatchers’ and first responders’ ability to effectively and efficiently respond to emergencies within the community.
The new system is part of a voluntary program where dispatchers send a link to the callers who are using mobile devices. The caller must give permission through the link for the dispatcher to access live video through the caller’s cell phone. At this time, audio is not recorded. Callers can also share pre-recorded videos of the incident with dispatchers. Dispatchers do not have access to any other media on the caller’s phone.
Prepared Live can also auto-detect and translate incoming foreign languages while simultaneously giving telecommunicators the ability to respond in the same language. Real-time translation preview shows the telecommunicator the translation result before sending it to the caller and field responders can view the text message exchange in real time, including translations.
“This tool will be instrumental in helping first responders respond to a wide variety of incidents by having access to live video of the incident they are heading toward,” Chief Pinard said. “We encourage our residents to utilize this service in any emergency with the knowledge that their privacy will still be protected.”
The program officially launched today. To learn more about Prepared and Prepared Live, visit prepared911
