TOWNSEND — Superintendent Brad Morgan and Chief James Sartell are pleased to report that the North Middlesex Regional School District and Townsend Police are teaming up to brighten Christmas for those in need via The Giving Tree.
A Christmas Tree in the lobby of the Townsend Police Department is decorated with Giving Tree Tags which contain the Christmas wishes of local children in need. A similar tree is also at North Middlesex Regional High School.
The Giving Tree is a non-profit program run by students at North Middlesex Regional High School to support families in the district’s sending communities of Ashby, Pepperell and Townsend by providing gifts, clothing and food for children up to age 18.
Students supporting The Giving Tree do community service work year-round, raising funds to purchase gifts, winter clothing and food for low-income families during the holiday season.
The community is invited to visit the police station lobby to take a Giving Tree tag off of the Christmas Tree. Each tag contains information on items needed by a local family.
Community members can take a tag, purchase the gifts on the tag, and return them to either the Townsend Police station or North Middlesex Regional High School by Dec. 8.
