BEDFORD – Chief John J. Bryfonski reports that the Bedford Police Department arrested a man whose car struck a building on Thursday night.
CHRISTOPHER HAYWARD, AGE 43, of EPSOM, was arrested and charged with:
- Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon
- Disobeying an Officer
- Conduct after Accident
- Resisting Arrest
- Reckless Operation
At about 9:25 p.m. Bedford Police officers received a report of a black Chevy truck that struck a commercial building at 222 South River Road, and then continued driving around the area.
Responding officers observed a black Chevy Tahoe driving over several curbs before coming to a stop.
The operator, later identified as HAYWARD, ignored commands to turn off the vehicle and step out. HAYWARD drove away, toward Merrimack. Merrimack Police and New Hampshire State Police were notified and began pursuit.
HAYWARD was later located on Second Street in Manchester, where he had crashed into three parked cars.
HAYWARD was detained by Manchester Police, and transported to an area hospital for treatment of an unrelated medical emergency. He was then transported to the Bedford Police Department for booking.
A preliminary investigation conducted by Bedford Police determined that HAYWARD struck a floral display near the entrance of Lowes while driving erratically through the store’s parking lot prior to fleeing from police. The building was not damaged.
HAYWARD is expected to be arraigned Friday in Hillsborough County Superior Court North.
Chief Bryfonski wishes to thank the Merrimack Police Department, Manchester Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police for their assistance during this incident.
These are all allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
