HAMPTON – Superintendent Lois Costa is pleased to share that a Hampton Academy paraeducator has been honored by educators statewide for her dedication to student well-being.
Amy Hansen received the New Hampshire School Administrators Association Champions for Children Award for the South East Region for 2020, during a ceremony at Grappone Conference Center in Concord in May. The 2020 and 2021 winners were honored together, due to postponement of the 2020 ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hansen is in charge of the zones of regulation support room at Hampton Academy, where she assists middle school students with self-regulation, and social and emotional well-being.
NHSAA’s Champions for Children award honors educators or community members in five regions each year. The award recognizes those who have demonstrated a dedication to improving the quality of education for public school children. Winners must champion efforts designed to successfully provide for the needs of all children. Recognition reflects service above and beyond normal duties.
“Hands down, there is not another person in Hampton who gives as much attention to building safe relationships with children as Amy,” Superintendent Costa said. “Amy represents all that is good in our world. We should all be honored to learn from her as we continue to find solutions for all children.”
Hansen worked in several business roles before joining the Hampton School District in November 2017. Hansen also volunteers as Operations Assistant for the Town of Hampton Parks and Recreation Department.
She has been involved in many community activities, including the Hampton Parent-Teacher Association, the Town Clock Committee, Friends of Hampton Academy and the Hampton Academy renovation project.
“I embrace the motto, ‘Do what you love, love what you do.’ I am lucky enough to work in the community in which I live. I get to participate in the growth and development of the youth in my community and it couldn’t make me prouder or more hopeful for the future of our Town,” Hansen said. “Every child can benefit from a connection to just one trusted adult. I hope for some, I am that adult. Thank you for honoring that.”
