STONEHAM — Fire Chief Matthew Grafton and Police Chief James McIntyre report that the Stoneham Police and Fire Departments responded this morning after a vehicle was located in Doleful Pond.
At 8:55 a.m., Stoneham Police and Firefighters were dispatched to Doleful Pond off Tedford Road after receiving a report from a 911 caller about a Jeep Wrangler in the pond. Upon arrival, first responders activated the Stoneham Fire and Police Dive Team, which searched the area of the wreck and determined that there was nobody inside the vehicle.
Since Doleful Pond is located within the Middlesex Fells Reservation, Stoneham Police and Fire personnel requested the Massachusetts State Police respond to the scene. Additionally, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was notified of the incident.
Following an initial investigation, police determined that the vehicle was stolen from Boston. How and when it ended up in the pond remains under investigation.
