ENFIELD — Chief Edward N. Richards is pleased to announce that William Higgins has been appointed as the new Deputy Chief and Training Officer of Enfield Fire District 1.
As Deputy Chief and Training Officer, Higgins will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing all fire department training along with supervising all firefighters. He will also develop collaborative training initiatives with mutual aid partners and other response agencies, and act in a senior position within the fire department incident command system for emergency incidents, as necessary.
Prior to this role, Higgins served as the long-time Clerk/Treasurer for the Enfield Fire District Commission. He also served as the Director of Training for the Connecticut Fire Academy.
Higgins currently serves as the State Administrator for CT TF-1 Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team and is the State Administrator for the CT Statewide Fire Rescue Disaster Plan.
Higgins was a members of the Enfield Fire Department from 1983 to 1989, and then was a career firefighter for the Southington Fire Department for 25 years before retiring as a Captain/Shift Commander in 2015.
“It’s my pleasure to welcome Bill back into Enfield’s fire service,” Chief Richards said. “He is an extremely capable individual with lots of relevant experience that he can bring to the department. We look forward to him joining our ranks once again.”
Higgins will begin his new role on Monday, Oct. 12 at Station 2 on Weymouth Road. His radio designation with be “Enfield Car 6”.
