DURHAM — Superintendent James Morse and Principal Suzanne Filippone are pleased to announce the graduation of 200 students from Oyster River High School.
“We could not be more proud to celebrate this significant accomplishment with students and their families,” Superintendent Morse said. “Congratulations to all who walked across the stage today, and know that we’re wishing you all the best as you take your next steps.”
Oyster River High School held a socially distanced, in-person commencement ceremony on Friday, June 12 from noon to 7 p.m. Graduate Cecilia Drysdale sang the national anthem. Students and their families arrived by car to the high school where students were then able to get out of the car with their families. Students walked across the stage after their name was read and picked up their diploma from a table on stage.
“You did it, Class of 2020, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate your accomplishments with you today,” said Principal Filippone. “You are remarkable young people who have enriched our community and we will miss having you at Oyster River High School. Congratulations to you all and we wish you the best as you enter this next chapter in your life.”
All performances and speeches by staff and students — including Valedictorian Leah Zamansky of Durham, Salutatorian Ty Mountain of Lee, Class President Dylon Thompson, of Durham and Class Treasurer Sean Moriarty, of Durham, — were recorded ahead of time and shared on the morning of graduation. The ceremony itself was live streamed on Friday as well.
Moriarty presented the class gift which was a donation to the Seacoast Superhero Challenge and The NH Foodbank.
Videos and photographs taken of students receiving their diplomas, which will be compiled into a second video with the speeches, and shared with students and their families at a later time.
A virtual Senior Awards Ceremony was held Thursday, June 11, honoring students who earned academic achievement awards and/or scholarships.
A video of that event can be found here.
