GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that on Saturday night Gloucester firefighters extinguished a one-alarm house fire on Webster St.
At 7:59 p.m., the Gloucester Fire Department was dispatched to 28 Webster St. following reports of fire from residents on the street. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the roof. The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the attic. The residents of were not at home at the time of the fire.
The response included: three Gloucester Fire Engines, one Gloucester Ladder, Gloucester Shift Commander, Gloucester Rescue Squad and Beauport EMS.
“First arriving companies made a quick stop on a fire that had a significant head start,” said Chief Smith. “It’s fortunate this happened when the family was not home and the neighbors saw it and called it in.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
