Newport Police Department to Begin Dispatch Operations for Orleans Fire Department
NEWPORT — Chief Seth DiSanto is pleased to announce that, beginning this week, the Newport Police Department will handle dispatch operations for the Orleans Fire Department.
The expansion to include Orleans Fire is part of the Newport Police Department’s ongoing effort to enhance its dispatch operation, which was funded in part by more than $284,000 in federal grant money that supported the installation of new equipment and upgrades to its dispatch center.
Newport Police also provide dispatch services for the Irasburg and Newport Fire Departments, as well as Newport Ambulance Service.
Dispatch service hours run Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. During non-dispatch hours, all calls are handled by the Vermont State Police’s Public Safety Answering Point in Williston. Citizens dialing 911 for emergency services will not notice any change.
“We’re dedicated to providing highly professional and reliable service to every community we work with, and I am confident that citizens who dial 911 will be satisfied with the help our dispatchers provide,” Chief DiSanto said. “I continue to be grateful for the Department of Homeland Security, Vermont Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Department of Agriculture for their support in helping us achieve critical upgrades to our dispatching equipment.”
