Raynham Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Dirt Bike
RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a dirt bike this afternoon.
At approximately 1:10 p.m., Raynham Police responded to Route 138 (Broadway) on a report of a motor vehicle crash.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a 19-year-old man from Raynham was traveling north on Route 138 on an unregistered 1980 Suzuki 250 when he crashed into the passenger side of a 2005 Toyota Avalon that was turning left onto Gilmore Street.
The crash caused the 19-year-old to be ejected from the dirt bike, landing in the northbound travel lane of Route 138. He was transported via ambulance to Morton Hospital and Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the Toyota, a 75-year-old man from Plymouth, remained on scene and is cooperating with police. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and declined medical attention.
The Raynham Fire Department, along with the Massachusetts State Police, responded to the scene. The Massachusetts Environmental Police Department was also notified of the crash.
The victim’s name is being held pending notification of next of kin.
This incident remains under investigation by the Raynham Police Department’s reconstruction team and detective unit.
