Groveland Police Arrest Two in Connection with Motor Vehicle Break-Ins
GROVELAND – Deputy Chief Jeffrey Gillen reports that the Groveland Police Department arrested two males in connection with a series of break-ins and thefts from motor vehicles early this morning.
A 16-YEAR-OLD JUVENILE MALE FROM HAVERHILL is charged with:
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without a License
- Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority
- Larceny Under $250
- Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime
- Possession of a Class D Drug Under 21
JEAN-CHARLES LAGUERRE, AGE 18, OF HAVERHILL is charged with:
- Larceny Under $250
- Possession of a Class D Drug Under 21
Around 3:15 a.m., Groveland Police received a report of two males entering motor vehicles in the area of Salem Street and Washington Street. Officer Jacob Wallace, who was patrolling the area, saw two males hiding behind a trailer near the South Fire Station, but was not able to make contact with them.
At the same time, Officer Chris Ertsos responded to Lanen Avenue for a car alarm. He located an unoccupied brown Ford Explorer, which came back registered to an address in Haverhill. The vehicle was parked next to two vehicles that were registered to a residence on Lanen Avenue.
Officers Ertsos and Wallace then began searching the area for the two males, and were assisted by Georgetown Police and West Newbury Police. During the search, officers located several motor vehicles with doors left ajar.
Police then heard the Explorer’s alarm sounding again. Inside the vehicle police found a male, identified as LAGUERRE. Following an on-scene investigation, he was placed under arrest.
Officer Wallace located the second suspect, who he had previously seen hiding behind the trailer. He was identified as the JUVENILE and placed under arrest.
Police found sunglasses, credit cards, gift cards and change on the suspects’ persons.
LAGUERRE was later transported to Newburyport District Court and the JUVENILE was transported to Essex County Juvenile Court in Lawrence.
Additionally, Groveland Police are investigating a third suspect in connection to the break-ins.
“I want to commend Officers Ertsos and Wallace for their hard work this morning,” Deputy Chief Gillen said. “I would also like to thank the Georgetown and West Newbury Police Departments for helping us search, locate and arrest these suspects.”
Throughout the day, police received about 15 reports from residents who had their vehicles broken into overnight. To prevent becoming a victim of motor vehicle theft, Groveland Police remind residents to:
-
- Always lock all car doors.
- Roll up windows and close sunroofs.
- Never leave loose electronics in plain view.
- Not leave money in your car or loose change in plain view.
- Call police immediately if you notice something missing.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
