Maynard Police Arrest Man in Connection with Suspicious Device
MAYNARD — Chief Mark W. Dubois reports that the Maynard Police Department arrested a man early this morning in connection with the suspicious device found in town earlier this week.
WILLIAM C. O’NEIL, AGE 51, OF MAYNARD is charged with:
- Placing an Explosive Device
- Possessing an Explosive Device
On Monday, Feb. 20, police responded to 7 Demars St. after a homeowner called 911 reporting a suspicious package on his front porch. Following an on-scene assessment, the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad rendered the device safe.
Following an investigation, the Bomb Squad was able to obtain evidence that tied O’NEIL to the suspicious device.
The Maynard Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for O’NEIL and a search warrant for his home late last night.
Police arrested O’NEIL at 5:30 a.m. today without incident at his home. Officers are currently in the process of executing the search warrant at his residence.
O’NEIL is also believed to be connected to a similar incident that occurred on Oct. 29 involving a suspicious package found near a resident’s home on 6 Walcott St. in Maynard.
O’NEIL is being held at the Maynard Police Department pending his arraignment at Concord District Court today.
These incidents remain under investigation by Maynard Police and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Additional charges may follow.
