*Joint Press Release* Andover Police and Fire Respond to Motor Vehicle Crash Involving Juvenile Pedestrian
ANDOVER — Police Chief Patrick Keefe and Fire Chief Michael Mansfield report that the Andover Police Department and Fire Rescue responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian this evening.
At approximately 6:35 p.m., rescuers responded to the area of 195 Main St. for a report of a person struck by a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters located a 16-year-old girl lying in the roadway. The victim was taken by Andover Fire Rescue ambulance to the parking lot of a nearby school, where a medical helicopter was dispatched. She was airlifted to a Boston hospital with serious leg injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was walking across Main Street in a crosswalk when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.
The incident is under investigation by the Andover Police Department.
