Methuen Detectives Arrest Suspect in Bank Robbery

METHUEN — Chief Joseph Solomon and Mayor Steve Zanni report that the Methuen Police Department arrested a man over the weekend for an armed robbery that occurred at a local bank last week.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, just before 2:30 p.m., Methuen Police responded to Methuen Cooperative Bank, 243 Broadway, for reports of an armed robbery. While in route, officers were advised that a black male had entered the bank, demanding money while showing a firearm and covering his face with his gray hooded sweatshirt. The suspect fled in a blue car with an unspecified amount of cash.

After the robbery, Methuen Police released video surveillance from the bank in an effort to identify the suspect.

Through an investigation involving the public’s assistance, police identified the suspect as ALAN WILSON, AGE 40, OF METHUEN on Friday night.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for WILSON and, upon their arrival at his residence, observed the car in question, a blue 2009 Nissan Murano. In addition, the bank teller positively identified him as the man involved in the robbery.

WILSON was then arrested and charged with Armed Robbery While Masked.

He is being held on $100,000 bail pending his appearance in Lawrence District Court on Nov. 21.

“Our detectives made quick work of this case, utilizing not only their own resources, but actively engaging with the public to identify the suspect,” Chief Solomon said. “I commend the research

and effort with which this incident was conducted.”

“I applaud the Methuen Police Department for their commitment to quickly solving crimes that impact our community members,” Mayor Zanni said. “The department consistently utilizes social media and online community groups to keep the public informed, engaged, and assured that they are safe.”

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
