Topsfield Fire Department Honors Former Deputy Chief at Topsfield Fair’s Opening Day
TOPSFIELD – Chief Ronald Giovannacci is pleased to announce that the Topsfied Fire Department honored retired Deputy Chief Robert “Bob” Wood at the opening day of the Topsfield Fair on Saturday, Oct. 1.
Deputy Wood, who served on the Topsfield Fire Department for 42 years, also owned Wood Engineering, a fire apparatus manufacturer located on Main Street in Topsfield, where he built Plaistow, N.H.’s antique 1948 Diamond T fire engine.
On Saturday, the Plaistow Fire Department reunited Deputy Wood with the engine he manufactured. Plaistow Fire Chief John H. McArdle was also in attendance and made Deputy Wood an honorary Plaistow firefighter.
“It was a great day recognizing Deputy Chief Wood for his years of service to Topsfield,” Chief Giovannacci said. “He is extremely deserving of this honor, and we were excited to be able to reunite him with the fire truck he worked so hard on bringing to life for Plaistow.”
Wood Engineering closed its doors in 1951 and Deputy Wood retired from the Topsfield Fire Department in 1992, but two of his sons, Donald and Charlie, currently serve on the department. His family was in attendance for the ceremony.
