Methuen Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash
This is a preliminary report. The facts and circumstances of this incident are actively under investigation.
METHUEN — Chief Joseph Solomon reports that the Methuen Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash this morning that resulted in the death of a young child.
At 7:25 a.m., a 1998 Honda Civic, operated by a 34-year-old Methuen woman, was traveling eastbound on East Brook Place. As the Honda entered Berkeley Street, a 2005 Ford Econoline struck the car’s driver’s side, causing the vehicle to spin out of control. A young boy, age 6, was ejected from the vehicle. He was declared dead at the scene.
The woman driving the car was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other passengers were in the vehicle.
The van continued traveling on Berkeley Street, crashing through a fence and into a wall of the Meeting House Hill Cemetery. The male operator remained on scene and is currently cooperating with police. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Methuen Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
No names are able to be released at this time.
