Pepperell Police Investigating Illegal Dumping of Hazardous Materials
PEPPERELL – Chief David Scott reports that the Pepperell Police Department is investigating the illegal dumping of hazardous material in town.
On Saturday, April 2, at 5:20 p.m., police, fire, the Conservation Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency responded to Lorden Lane — a dirt access road off Lawrence Street — after a resident notified police that several barrels were disposed of in the area.
The liquid is believed to be a combination of used motor oil and grease.
Today, the EPA removed three inches of top soil from the ground and believe the material did not spread enough to raise alarm. The property abuts town conservation land and there are no homes close enough to cause concern. The EPA is currently testing the substance in an attempt to identify it.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Pepperell Police Department at 978-433-2424.
