Melrose Police Department’s Honor Guard Attends Funeral for Officer Garrett Swasey In Colorado
MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle reports that four members from the Melrose Police Department’s Honor Guard flew to Colorado this morning to attended funeral services for fallen Officer Garrett Swasey.
Officer Swasey, a 44-year-old and former Melrose resident, died in the line of duty on Nov. 27 at the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado.
Sgt. Joshua Crowley and Patrolmen William Higgins, Michael Plumer and Stephen Galvin will attend the funeral for Swasey, who worked as a police officer at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, on Friday at 1.p.m. The services will be held at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Parkway.
The Melrose Honor Guard will also participate in the procession after the funeral, which stretches five miles and follows Interstate 25 to pass by UCCS, on the way to the cemetery.
“Officer Swasey was a colleague, a former resident of this city, a husband, a father, a son, a brother and so much more,” Chief Lyle said. “It was a priority for the Melrose Police Department to remember and honor his memory and I am thankful we were able to send four representatives to Colorado today.”
Chief Lyle would like to thank JetBlue Airways for providing the Honor Guard with transportation to and from Colorado.
