Insight To Recovery Joins The Gloucester Initiative
GLOUCESTER — Police Chief Leonard Campanello and Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken are pleased to report that Insight To Recovery in Florida is partnering with the Gloucester Police Department’s ANGEL Initiative.
As of Monday morning, 137 people have been placed into treatment programs by The Gloucester Initiative since June 1, when the program began.
The Gloucester ANGEL program allows people who suffer from addiction to turn over their remaining drug supply and paraphernalia to the Gloucester Police Department without the threat of arrest. Those in need of help are put into treatment programs as opposed to jail cells. The policy went into effect last month in an effort to address a growing opioid epidemic and to reduce the number of overdoses in Massachusetts. “We are pleased to be working with Insight To Recovery,” Chief Campanello said. “Our out-of-state partners are extremely valuable, as they take participants out of their normal habitat and allow them to recover and start fresh in a new atmosphere.”
“The continued support from treatment centers willing to help people combat the disease of addiction through The Gloucester Initiative is heart warming,” Mayor Romeo Theken said. “We are happy to welcome Insight To Recovery to our team.”
Chief Campanello and businessman John Rosenthal have launched The Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) — a new nonprofit organization created in response to Gloucester’s revolutionary drug addiction program and the immediate positive feedback from local, state and national organizations.
“We are excited and honored to be partnering with The Gloucester Initiative, and are committed to making a difference in our patients’ lives,” said Harvey Brown, Founder of Insight To Recovery. “Our staff will work with participants in a relaxed atmosphere, using real life tactics to to guide them through the process of recovery.”
