Pepperell Boy Struck by Tractor This Afternoon
PEPPERELL — Police Chief David Scott reports that the Pepperell Police and Fire Departments responded this afternoon after a boy was struck and injured by a Bobcat-style Caterpillar brand skid-steer loader/tractor
A 911 call came in at 4:44 p.m. for a location on North Street in Pepperell. Officers arrived minutes later, followed by firefighters and emergency medical services. Responders determined that a 12-year-old boy had been struck by the machine, which caused injuries to his upper legs.
Pepperell Fire/EMS transported the 12-year-old to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, and he was later taken by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that are considered serious but non life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the boy’s juvenile brother was operating the equipment at the time. The victim slid on ice and fell into the path of the Bobcat, which was backing up at the time.
The Massachusetts Departmental of Public Safety, which investigates accidents involving these types of industrial machines, is investigating.
The Bobcat is privately owned by the victim’s family.
