Dunstable Police Department Investigating Influx of Car Breaks
Reminds Residents to Lock their Doors, Secure Valuables
DUNSTABLE — Police Chief James G. Downes III reports that the Dunstable Police Department is investigating an increase in break-ins of and thefts from motor vehicles.
Police believe that the breaks are occurring during the late night hours, with at least six breaks reported over the weekend. The breaks were reported in the areas of Century Way, Main Street, Mill Street, Adam Street and Depot Street.
The suspect(s) are taking money out of cars, and most of the thefts have been of unlocked vehicles.
“In the past, we have been successful in locating and apprehending a suspect for similar incidents, but it takes a vigilant and engaged public,” Chief Downes said.
The department offers the following tips:
- Always lock all car doors
- Roll up windows and close sunroofs
- Never leave lose electronics in plain view
- Do not leave money in your car or loose change in plain view
- Call police immediately if you notice something missing.
In response to these incidents, police will be increasing patrols and using electronic notification tools to alert residents to be on the watch.
The Dunstable Police Department is also working with neighboring departments who may have reported similar incidents.
