Zuppa Brings 25+ Years of Experience to JGPR’s Northern New England Division

GEORGETOWN — John Guilfoil Public Relations LLC is pleased to announce the expansion of its Northern New England team with the addition of award-winning journalist Tom Zuppa.
Zuppa has served as a reporter and editor at several Massachusetts newspapers over his 25+ year career, and he brings a deep knowledge of local government and school operations, as well as community journalism and social media trends to JGPR. The newspapers he oversaw won numerous industry honors during his tenure as editor.
Prior to joining JGPR in February 2021, Zuppa served as a reporter and editor at the Middlesex News (now MetroWest Daily News), The Sun of Lowell and the Sentinel & Enterprise of Fitchburg. Those papers won numerous industry honors under his leadership, including two First Amendment Awards, and two Publick Occurrences Awards, which honor the very best work that New England newspapers produce each year. During this time, Zuppa regularly shared his skills and expertise at journalism conferences, and has made presentations to industry groups such as the New England Society of Newspaper Editors (NESNE) and the New England Newspaper and Press Association (NENPA).
Zuppa also led numerous social media campaigns during his career. In 2012, he developed a strategic communications and marketing plan for The Sun and Sentinel & Enterprise, which included best practices, staff training and a deep focus on analytics and measurement. The plan earned top honors within his company and an award for Digital Strategy Excellence from NENPA.
Zuppa, a Littleton, MA resident, has worked as an adjunct professor at Middlesex Community College, where he taught newswriting, media ethics and business ethics. He also has made frequent appearances as an analyst on NECN’s “Primary Source” political program and organized and moderated numerous political debates. Zuppa holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Boston University.
“Tom brings a wealth of knowledge about ways to communicate and share information, and he has longstanding relationships with community leaders and a deep understanding of how local government, public safety and school districts work,” said John Guilfoil, JGPR founder. “His skills and experience make Tom an ideal fit for our company.”
Zuppa steps into the role of Account Executive in JGPR’s Northern New England division, where he’ll assist clients with day-to-day communications, advising on long-term communication strategy and crisis management, as well as expanding JGPR’s client footprint in the region.
“JGPR’s client communities expect clear, direct and immediate communication from government and its leaders,” Zuppa said. “I’m looking forward to stepping into my new role at JGPR, and working with clients to craft communications that engage their communities and the people they serve.”
