CANTON — Superintendent Derek Folan and Principal Jeff Sperling are pleased to share that 62 students were recently inducted into Canton High School’s National Honor Society.
An induction ceremony for the students was held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Canton High School.
Canton High School NHS students are selected by a committee of five faculty members on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, character and community service. They are invited to apply based on their GPA and the selection process happens after students submit applications.
The school’s NHS chapter invites junior and senior students with a 3.3 GPA or higher to apply for membership. Junior applicants need a minimum of 50 hours of community service and senior applicants need a minimum of 75 hours of community service. Students in both grade levels also need to have a minimum of two leadership roles in school or community.
NHS students are tasked with completing individual community service projects, which in the past have included “Soup for the Super Bowl,” work with Cradles for Crayons, clothing collections, collecting personal hygiene products for the homeless and a hockey clinic to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The chapter also completes a group project in the spring.
