Funds to Support Free Community Programming, Local Events in Avon
AVON — Town Administrator Gregory Enos is pleased to announce that D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches selected the Avon Civic Association as a recent winner in the D’Angelo $55K Neighborhood Giveaway.
The promotion served as a celebration of the neighborhood sandwich shop’s 55th year in business. Throughout the summer, D’Angelo awarded $10,000 to five community partner organizations that receive the most votes, along with $1,000 to five voters across New England, totaling $55,000 in community donations. The promotion ran through July.
Team members at each participating restaurant were asked to identify an organization in their community to partner with for the program. The organizations chosen support a variety of community-based services and needs, such as youth and family services, recreation, healthcare, housing services, community centers and more.
With an impressive 8,216 votes in its favor, the fourth of five partner organization to be awarded $10,000 was the Avon Civic Association, which has been committed to enhancing the quality of life for Avon residents through educational, artistic, civic and social activities for over 30 years.
On Friday, July 22, the D’Angelo team at 600 Page St. in Avon presented representatives of the Avon Civic Association with a check in the amount of $10,000. The donation will help fund the free community programming organized by the association, including summer concerts, Oktoberfest, and accompanying live entertainment.
“The Avon Civic Association would like to thank D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches and their team at 600 Page St. for the opportunity to be part of their 55th anniversary celebration,” the Avon Civic Association said in a statement. “We could not have done this without all the residents of Avon and their family and friends voting every day to make us one of the five weekly winners. Thanks to everyone that voted for us.”
The funds will also support a number of holiday events and attractions, including the annual Holiday Festival, a live ice sculpture carving demonstration, horse and carriage rides and additions to the Holiday Village at DeMarco Park.
“We’re thrilled to see these funds go to the Avon Civic Association, an organization going above and beyond to promote community and organize events the whole neighborhood looks forward to,” said Deena McKinley, Chief Experience Officer at D’Angelo Grilled Sandwiches. “This organization’s value and contributions to the community are apparent through the sheer number of votes gathered, and we know these funds will translate to hours of entertainment and community-building for everyone in the Avon area thanks to the ACA.”
Other winners as part of the contest were Allied Rehabilitation Center of Enfield, Connecticut; Southington West Baseball League of Southington, Connecticut; Advanced Math and Science Academy of Marlborough; and Project Hand Up of West Warwick, Rhode Island.
