ROCKLAND — Superintendent Alan Cron and Principal John Harrison are pleased to announce that Rockland High School held a Student Government Council Camp and Band Camp for students prior to the start of the new school year.
Student Government Council Camp
The annual Student Government Council Camp was held from Monday, Aug. 16 through Wednesday, Aug. 18. The camp focused on team building and bonding, communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
SGC facilitated student-run workshops and a workshop led by RHS SGC alumni. Student Maddie Smith hosted a workshop that focused on communication, Ngan Nguyen ran a workshop that narrowed in on listening skills and teamwork, and Maria Pala organized a workshop with a focal point of logic and communication to complete a common goal.
Some of the highlights of the camp included:
- Self-improvement leadership workshop
- Time management workshop
- Discussion of fundraisers
- Space tag activity
- Committee chants
- Committee war games featuring crack-an-egg, Oreo minute-to-win-it, and a water balloon toss
- A scavenger hunt
The following students participated in SGC Camp this year: Chelsea Amaral, Avery Burke, Joshua Campoverde, Benjamin Carpine, Nicole Cedrone, Emily Costa, Emilee Dunham, Kaileigh Fulton, Simon Ghebremariam,Callie Gillan, Shannon Gustin, Ava Hagan, Logan Hatch, Nevaeh Jolliemore, Olivia Jones, Megan Joyce, Ava LaBollita, Carolayne Lage, Sophie Levy, Madison Lorgeree, Abbie Loughlin, Mary McPartlin, Corinne Medford, Lina Nassif, Ngan Nguyen, Maria Pala, Rose Ripley, Madison Smith, Hope Sylvester and Evonne Woodfin.

Band Camp
RHS students participated in the annual Band Camp from Wednesday, Aug. 18 through Friday, Aug. 20. During the three-day music and leadership workshop students practiced sectionals, show tunes, stand tunes and parade tunes, and performed a group rehearsal.
The following students participated in Band Camp: Kathleen Nee (Musical Director), Sophia Aifa, Hannah Ivil, Emma Krog, Zac Harrington, Logan Hatch, Leah Leonard, Daniel O’Brien, Adam Pollard, Conor Quackenbush, and special guest Eve Piazza.
The school thanks the RHS Music Boosters for their support of the Band Camp, as well as band teachers Lindsey Crook and John Piazza for their organization of the camp.
Joint Meeting
On Wednesday, Aug. 18, the SGC and Band camps united in a leadership workshop run by Crook. Together SGC and band students identified different strengths and weaknesses and learned about the difference between giving praise versus encouragement to their peers.
Piazza gave a lesson on participating in a drum circle using African Drums. The day concluded with students bonding over trivia games and refreshments.
