AVON — Town Administrator Gregory Enos, Health Agent Kathleen Waldron and Fire Chief Robert Spurr report that the Town of Avon is urgently reminding community members to follow prevention guidance from the Board of Health and State Department of Public Health as the Town continues to monitor positive current COVID-19 cases.
After many weeks of having less than five positive cases, Avon has seen an increase in positive COVID-19 test results. Currently, the town has had seven new positive cases since September 16. As a result, the Town of Avon has moved into the “Red” or high-risk category for COVID-19 infection.
For an explanation of the color coded risk levels and why Avon jumped from not having a designation to a higher risk community, watch the town’s most recent COVID-19 update video at: https://youtu.be/pIRE4LJog_w
“While seven positive COVID-19 cases is a small number, it is not the time to let up on the restrictions we have had in place,” Waldron said. “It is vital to continue to practice social distancing, wear face coverings, wash your hands and avoid large gatherings or house parties.”
At this time, it is unclear when Avon can move to the state’s Step 2 of Phase III. More information will follow in the coming days.
Additionally, at this time there are no changes to the Avon Public Schools’ learning models.
“We will continue to monitor the latest COVID-19 data and guidance from the state and federal health authorities, and we remind our residents that there are important steps we can all take to stop the spread of the coronavirus,” Town Administrator Enos said. “We take every case seriously, and we are doing everything we can to support our residents who have fallen ill and their families.”
