RAYNHAM — Fire Chief Bryan LaCivita reports that the Raynham Fire Department extinguished a car fire earlier this morning.
At approximately 8:45 a.m., Raynham Fire responded to the area of Route 138 and I-495 for a report of a car that was on fire after it had struck a traffic light and utility pole.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and fire coming from a Ford Five Hundred sedan. Engine 3 began an aggressive attack and was able to quickly extinguish the flames within 10 minutes.
First responders located the driver who was laying in the roadway and began rendering aid. The driver was then transported via Raynham Fire ambulance with serious, life-threatening injuriesto Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
No other injuries were reported.
The Raynham Police Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation responded to the scene to assist with traffic. Taunton Municipal Lighting also responded to the scene.
The roadway was closed in both directions but reopened at approximately 10 a.m.
“I would like to commend the efforts of all responding firefighters,” Chief LaCivita said. “It was a chaotic scene early on and they performed their duties admirably to get the fire under control while rendering aid. Overall, it was a job well done.”
The incident is currently under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
