Bedford Firefighters Assist With Delivering Baby
BEDFORD — Chief David Grunes is pleased to report that several members of the Bedford Fire Department assisted with the delivery of a baby yesterday morning.
On Oct. 29, the Bedford dispatch center received a call at 6:40 a.m. requesting assistance for a woman in labor at her place of employment. Firefighter/Paramedics John Perry and Patrick Stewart responded, along with Firefighters Sam Panzeri and Dana Park in the department’s Advanced Life Support ambulance.
Just five minutes after the Bedford Fire Department’s arrived, the mother delivered her son. Paramedics reported that both mom and baby were doing well upon arrival at Emerson Hospital in Concord.
This is the 15th time Firefighter/Paramedic Perry has helped deliver a child and the fourth assist for Firefighter/Paramedic Stewart. The Bedford Fire Department has assisted with the delivery of three babies in the last 18 months.
“As emergency responders, far too often we deal with unhappy situations and outcomes, so it is very uplifting for our firefighters to directly help bring a new life into the world,” Chief Grunes said. “We are also proud to offer high-level services like Advanced Life Support to our community. Our trained paramedics were able to respond quickly and assist mom and baby with the highest levels of training available in the field.”
