King Philip Seniors Recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program

WRENTHAM — King Philip Regional School District Superintendent Paul Zinni is pleased to announce that four King Philip Regional High School seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that recognizes students for their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). In September, students were notified that they qualified as either a Commended Student or Semifinalist.

“I would like to congratulate these four students on their achievements on the PSATs,” Superintendent Zinni said. “The test requires a lot of hard work and dedication and this recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Program acknowledges their efforts. These students show exceptional skills and set an excellent example for all King Philip students.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program recognized one King Philip senior as a Semifinalist and three seniors as Commended Students:

Keerthana Senthil Kumar

Keerthana Senthil Kumar is among the 16,000 students in the U.S. who qualified as Semifinalists. Kumar is an active member of the Model United Nations and the King Philip Spanish, English and Science National Honor societies. Kumar plans on applying to Brown University, Tulane University, Rice University and Northeastern University to pursue a degree in political science and public health.

John Beatty

John Beatty is among the three King Philip seniors who were recognized as Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Beatty plans on applying to Northeastern University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the University of Massachusetts to pursue an degree in engineering. Beatty is an active member of the Pride and Passion Marching Band, the King Philip Jazz Band, Debate Club and Model United Nations. He has also been inducted into the King Philip Science National Honor Society.

Thomas Civattone

Thomas Civattone was recognized as a Commended Student for his outstanding academic promise. He is an active member of Debate Club and an award-winning member of Model United Nations. Civattone is a member of the King Philip Spanish, Science, History and English National Honor Societies. He plans on applying to Northeastern University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in physics.

Allison Norton

Allison Norton has been recognized as a Commended Student for her high scores on the NMSQT. Norton is an active member of the King Philip French and Science National Honor Societies and the volleyball team. She also serves as the vice president of the student government. She plans to attend Carleton College in Minnesota, where she intends to study Neuroscience.
