Hull High School Art Teacher Selected as Secondary Art Educator of the Year

HULL — Superintendent Michael Devine and High School Principal Nicole Nosek are pleased to share that Hull High School art teacher Amanda Davis was selected as the Massachusetts Art Education Association (MAEA) 2020 Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

As an award recipient, Davis will be recognized at the 2020 MAEA Awards Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Montserrat College of Art in Beverly.

Davis has worked in the public schools setting for over 11 years. She has been writing and creating art in all forms since she was young, which is one of the many reasons she was inspired to teach art. Davis has experience writing and implementing cross-disciplinary curriculum that focuses on social justice, diversity and community building.

Davis’ mission is to help students recognize the power of the arts and guide them to use art as a tool for expressing thoughts and emotions, inspiring change, solving problems and creating meaning in their lives.

Davis has been the recipient of several local and state grants that support her class initiatives. Most recently, she was awarded the Teaching Tolerance Educator Grant for the 2018-19 school year.

“On behalf of our faculty at Hull High School, I’d like to congratulate Amanda for receiving this honor,” Principal Nosek said. “She is a talented educator who has an evident passion for art and is always determined to inspire her students. We’re proud to have her at our school.”

Davis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Studio Art from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island and a Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
