Kearsarge’s Simonds and Sutton Elementary Schools Open New Playgrounds
NEW LONDON– Superintendent Winfried Feneberg is pleased to share that Sutton and Simonds Elementary each have new playgrounds this school year.
Each playground was made possible by fundraising efforts from each school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), as well as money from the district’s operating budget. The Simonds Elementary School PTO raised approximately $30,000 to support a new playground, while the Sutton Elementary School PTO raised approximately $11,000.
“Our PTOs worked incredibly hard to support these projects, and our students are ecstatic to have new playground equipment,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “It’s important for children to have the opportunity to play in a creative, imaginative, safe place, and our students are fortunate to have a community that was eager to support these new playgrounds.”
The Sutton playground was completed in June, and the Simonds playground was completed in August.
The new playgrounds feature equipment that support imaginative play, as well as climbing stations, swings and slides. The new equipment replaces previous playgrounds which were between 15 and 20 years old, and were well worn from years of recess and play.
