Attleboro Fire Department Preparing New Engine for Service

ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott T. Lachance is pleased to announce that the Attleboro Fire Department recently received its brand-new engine and is currently preparing the truck for service.

Engine 1 is a Pierce Enforcer, with a 450 horsepower Cummins diesel engine and Allison transmission. The truck comes equipped with a pump capable of pumping 1,500 gallons of water per minute, a 750 gallon tank, a 20 gallon Class A foam tank and a 30 gallon Class B foam tank.

The truck was built by Pierce Manufacturing in Wisconsin and was delivered to the Union Street fire station on Tuesday, April 30.

The department is currently in the process of installing equipment on the truck and there will be a training session held with a factory representative later this month. The engine is expected to be put into service in early June.

“We are thrilled to have the newest addition to our fleet of apparatus and are hoping to have it in service in the next few weeks,” Chief Lachance said. “This new engine is the top-of-the-line and should serve the department well for many years to come.”

The new Engine 1 will be used out of the department headquarters at 100 Union St. The current Engine 1, a 2017 Pierce engine, will eventually replace Engine 5, a 2001 Piece engine, which will become a reserve vehicle.

With its newest addition, the Attleboro Fire Department now has four front-line engines, two reserve engines, two ladder trucks, three front-line ambulances and two reserve ambulances.

Serving a city of approximately 45,000 residents, the Attleboro Fire Department went on 8,200 calls last year.
