HAMPTON — Superintendent Dr. Lois Costa is pleased to announce the completion of Centre School’s preschool playground, which was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday.
District administrators and Centre School students, faculty and staff gathered at the playground on Tuesday, Nov. 12 for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the new playground.
Ultiplay Parks and Playgrounds Company led construction for the project.
The District had multiple meetings in the spring with Pre-K teachers Deanne Durent and Megan Cargill, Director of Facilities Keith Lessard, Assistant Principal of Centre School Jamie Hayward, and Director of Student Services Dr. Lois DaSilva-Knapton to review specific designs for the playground, choose equipment and color schemes.
A main goal of the project was to make the playground accessible to all students.
The Hampton PTA donated $50,000 toward the playground and the town funded the rest through warrant articles passed in 2023. Construction took place throughout October.
“Our playground is a great example of when a school identifies a need to enhance the experience of its students and the community responding in support,” said Centre School Principal Marc Robitaille during the ceremony. “This play area and new equipment is more than just an area to run around but a place where learning can continue. Play is a vital part of early educational opportunities where students can learn how to work together and make connections with one another.”
“A big thank you is in order to everyone involved in this project, as well as those who provided community support,” said Dr. Costa. “This new playground will not only benefit our preschoolers but also our community. We are so thrilled with the outcome.”
