EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is proud to recognize East Bridgewater Police Department officers who provided critical care to an injured juvenile last week.
On Friday, Nov. 15, at approximately 2:34 p.m., East Bridgewater Police were dispatched to a home on Anna Drive for a report of a juvenile who had crashed a dirt bike and was injured.
Deputy Chief Michael McLaughlin, Detective Sgt. Ryan Cramer, Sgt. John Smith and Officers Michael Curtin, Derreck Card, and Mark Harvey all responded to the scene.
Officers located an 11-year-old juvenile suffering from a severe leg wound.
Detective Sgt. Cramer and Officer Curtin, the first two on the scene, immediately applied a tourniquet to the juvenile’s right leg to stop the bleeding.
The East Bridgewater Fire Department then transported the juvenile to Boston Children’s Hospital.
On Monday, Nov. 18, the East Bridgewater Police Department was notified by the juvenile’s family that he underwent surgery and was now home recovering well. Doctors told the family that the application of a tourniquet prevented severe, if not fatal, blood loss.
“I am immensely proud of the quick response to this incident by many officers and the application of a tourniquet by Detective Sgt. Ryan Cramer and Officer Michael Curtin, which stopped severe bleeding that may have saved this juvenile’s life,” Chief Jenkins said. “Our responding officers handled this situation with the utmost care and concern. These officers’ actions reflect the core values of the East Bridgewater Police Department of providing exceptional police services that enable the safety, security, and well-being of all our citizens.”
