MENDON — Superintendent Maureen Cohen and Memorial Elementary School Principal Wendy Bell are proud to share that Memorial Elementary School and the Memorial PTO raised over $28,000 during their recent Boosterthon Fun Run fundraiser.
The fundraiser kicked off on Sept. 27 and was open until the Fun Run on Oct. 8. The school and PTO hosted the Boosterthon Fun Run as an alternative to traditional product sales. This format was promoted as healthier and more exciting, focusing on raising funds for Memorial Elementary while advocating for fitness, leadership, and character.
Each student had the chance to create an online fundraising page to kickstart their efforts. Before the run, they collected pledges online from family and friends on a pledge-per-lap basis or a flat rate.
On Oct. 8, students participated in the Fun Run during school hours. They had 30 minutes to complete as many laps as possible around Memorial’s Fun Run loop, with most students completing about 30-35 laps during the allotted time.
Participants earned a free custom T-shirt sponsored by local business partners and families to wear during the Fun Run.
Through their efforts, students earned the prize of duct-taping Principal Bell and Assistant Principal Lauren Chuk to the wall during an Oct. 10 all-school meeting, which was a reward for reaching over $28,000 during the fundraiser.
“I am immensely proud of Memorial Elementary students for their dedication to this cause, and thank the administrators, teachers, and staff who made it all possible,” Superintendent Cohen said. “Their hard work paid off, and they raised an extraordinary amount through this fundraiser.”
